“It’s not what you preach, it’s what you tolerate.”
Leadership is the cornerstone of an exceptional golf course maintenance team. I am committed to continually improving my leadership skills by learning from esteemed figures across various fields, including elite head coaches, historically significant military leaders, influential political figures, renowned philosophers, and leaders within our industry. Enhancing my leadership abilities and optimizing team performance are always top priorities for me.
The objective is to lead the staff through personal example and dedication. My competitive nature drives me to outwork the team and encourage them to match my efforts. Those who embrace this competitive spirit will ultimately strive for success and elevate our club to new heights. By pushing each other to improve daily in all aspects of life, not just on the golf course, we foster a culture of continuous growth and excellence.
Attention to detail is crucial, starting from the moment members arrive at the entrance. The quality of our presentation is evident from the outset. Effective and clear communication with both the agronomy team and other club departments is essential to ensuring the best possible experience for our members and their guests.
It’s not what you preach, its what you tolerate. Continuous communication with the staff—highlighting both achievements and areas for improvement—is crucial to ensure that everyone comprehends our mission and understands what is expected and acceptable.
Developing a robust leadership team is paramount. It involves not only instructing interns, AITs, and assistants on effective leadership practices but also soliciting their feedback to identify areas for improvement. By training these individuals to fully understand our mission and processes, we enable decentralized decision-making and problem-solving in my absence. It is essential to instill in them core qualities such as integrity, honesty, loyalty, a sense of urgency, and discipline, preparing them to ultimately lead their own golf course maintenance teams.
